Pereira Launches UGA’s Third-Longest Hammer Throw In History

Austin --- Bulldog senior Alencar Pereira finished as the top collegiate finisher with the longest hammer throw of his career on the Bulldogs' first day at the Texas Relays Thursday.
Pereira, who hails from Brazil, sent his opening attempt 72.85 meters/239 feet to finish second overall, trailing only an unattached competitor who set the meet record at 253 feet. Pereira's mark shot him from No. 6 to No. 3 in the school record books with the country's third-best toss this year at the University of Texas' Myers Stadium.
When Do The Dogs Start Friday: The Lady Bulldog 4x100-meter relay will start the action at 10:35 a.m. followed by a series of Georgia competitors on the track. The field events will begin with Gavin Beverage in the men's shot put, which will begin following the women's shot which starts at 11 a.m.

The Lowdown: Georgia also had graduate transfer Erin McMeniman finish fourth in the javelin (47.30m/155-2) and senior Ana da Silva, also of Brazil, take 20th in the hammer throw.
