Sophia Pilla Garners SEC Flat Rider of the Month Honors

ATHENS, Ga. --- Junior Sophia Pilla of the University of Georgia equestrian team has been named the Southeastern Conference Flat Rider of the Month for her performances throughout February, the conference office announced Thursday.

The Ridgefield, Connecticut native also garnered the award from the National Collegiate Equestrian Association.

Pilla went undefeated with scores of 87 and above in four of the five meets. She defeated her opponents by an average of 9.8 points. She won Most Outstanding Performance honors at home to start the month in an upset win over South Carolina. Her score of 99 is tied for the best score in program history, making her only the third Bulldog to achieve the near-perfect mark and the first since 2019.

Pilla and the sixth-ranked Bulldogs conclude regular season competition on Saturday, March 4 as the team travels to College Station, Texas to face the No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies. The meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m. CT.
