ATHENS, Ga. — The sixth-ranked University of Georgia women's tennis team defeated Alabama 4-1 on Thursday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, in Southeastern Conference play. 

In doubles, Georgia (12-3, 5-0 SEC) dropped two of three to Alabama (9-5, 2-2 SEC). On court two, No. 39 Meg Kowalski and Mell Reasco picked up the first win of the day, defeating Kasia Pitak and Ola Pitak 6-2, while Alabama's Petra Sedlackova and Anna Parkhomenko responded with a 6-4 win over Ania Hertel and Anastasiia Lopata on court three. With the doubles point on the line, No. 26 Guillermina Grant and Mai Nirundorn fell to No. 58 Anne Marie Hiser and Loudmilla Bencheikh 7-5.

In singles action, the Bulldogs won four matches. No. 122 Kowalski provided the first win of the day on court five. She topped Anne Marie Hiser in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. No. 10 Lea Ma gave Georgia the lead thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over No. 94 Loudmilla Bencheikh. This marked Ma's eighth consecutive win and ninth win over a ranked opponent on the season. She was followed by No. 52 Reasco who defeated Petra Sedlackova in a three-set battle 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 – her seventh consecutive win, while No. 12 Dasha Vidmanova clinched the match with a 7-6 (3), 6-0 win over Ola Pitak – her ninth straight victory.

Georgia will return to action on Sunday, March 19 against Auburn at 1 p.m. The first 100 fans will receive a free University of Georgia women's tennis t-shirt.
