Volleyball Adds Graduate Transfer Erica Staunton

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia volleyball program has announced the addition of 6-1 outside hitter/opposite Erica Staunton from Northeastern. 
 
Staunton, a native of Orland Park, Illinois, concluded her career at Northeastern as a three-time All-Colonial Athletic Conference performer (2020-21, 2021, 2022) and was a CAA All-Rookie Team honoree in 2019. 
 
"Erica brings a wealth of competitive experience to our program," head coach Tom Black said. "She is a high flying outside with an incredible work ethic and passion for the game. She is going to be a huge success in life, and we're beyond excited to get her for her final year of NCAA volleyball. She brings so much to our program on and off the court." 
 
Staunton tallied 1,041 kills at Northeastern in 309 sets in 86 matches. She's set a career 3.37 kills per set clip with a .208 hitting percentage. Defensively, she averaged 1.13 digs per set and put up a total of 124 blocks. In four years, she recorded 1,137.5 points (3.68/set). 
 
As a senior, Staunton averaged a team-best 4.01 kills per set, setting a new program record in the category, recording seven 20-kill matches including a season-best 26 at Delaware (9/18). She finished third in the CAA in kills per set and 4.38 points per set. Along with All-CAA First Team honors, she also garnered second team accolades from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). 
 
Her junior season saw Staunton finished fourth in the league with 3.15 kills per set and ninth with 3.40 points per set en route to All-CAA Second Team honors. 
 
Staunton averaged 4.13 kills per set (third in the CAA) and contributed 4.60 points per set (second) in the truncated 2020-21 season, leading Northeastern to an 8-3 record and picking up All-CAA First Team honors.
 
In her freshman season as a Husky, Staunton put up 241 kills and averaged 2.80 points per set. She earned a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team.
 
Staunton led Carl Sandburg High School to three IHSA 4A regional championships (2016-18). She was a back-to-back all-conference selection in 2017 and 2018 and was her team MVP and was an all-state honorable mention in 2018. Off the court, she was a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta and was a First Class Ambassador. She graduated top five percent of her class was a 2019 State Scholar. 
 
She competed three season with Michio Chicago Volleyball Academy in Evergreen Park, Illinois and won the 2018 National Division national championship.
 
Erica is the daughter of Sheila and James Staunton. She has three older siblings: Peter, Michael, and Abby. She will pursue her Masters in Business Analytics at Georgia.
