QUICK HITS
Windy City Bound
The top-seeded Bulldogs won its Kickoff Weekend region, defeating No. 4 LSU and No. 2 Louisville to clinch a spot at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championships. The team will begin play to earn an indoor national title on Feb. 17.

Georgia will seek its third title at the National Team Indoor Championships, with its previous two coming in 2006 and 2007. The Bulldogs have appeared in the finals seven times in total, which is tied for the fourth-most in the event's history.

The Dan Magill Tennis Complex has become a frequent spot as a regional site for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. This was the eighth time Georgia has been selected as a host site in the last 10 years and the 12th since the Kickoff format was introduced in 2009. Teams who ranked in the top-15 of the final poll of the 2022 season were selected as the regional hosts for the event.

Diaz's Details
On playing Illinois at the XS Tennis Village before ITA Team National Indoor Championships…
"Illinois will be a big challenge for us," said head coach Manny Diaz. "Yesterday was a very long day with flight delays and practice. The courts at XS Tennis Village are quite fast courts, so we'll need to make some adjustments. Practice when we arrived was pretty positive and we'll hit again before the match to get more comfortable with the surface. The XS Tennis Village will be an outstanding site for our national indoors beginning Friday and playing here before will give us a leg up to make that transition for the tournament. We need to play to the best of our ability against this great Illinois team. They're very deep with lots of talent, so it's going to take our best to beat them. We have been building and have some momentum, but this match will take our very best."

On competing at the ITA Team National Indoor Championships…
"We have a big challenge, playing against South Carolina, who's ranked sixth in the country," said Coach Diaz. "They're a great team, a veteran team. It's going to be an SEC showdown – a big, contested war out there. They play with a lot of enthusiasm and competitiveness. I like what I've seen from our team, we have been building great chemistry in these last few matches. We'll have one day of light practice after playing Illinois to play South Carolina. We feel great about where we are right now heading into the Indoor Championships and against a very good Illinois team who will have a lot of fans."

Dawgs in the Rankings
In the latest ITA rankings released on Feb. 8, Georgia remained as just one of two schools with multiple singles players within the top 10. Redshirt freshman Ethan Quinn led the way for the Bulldogs, appearing at No. 5 in the first updated rankings released since Nov. 16, 2022. Redshirt senior Philip Henning reached a new career high by claiming the No. 8 spot. The Bloemfontein, South Africa native holds a 4-3 record on court two this season.

Blake Croyder and Trent Bryde round out Georgia's ranked singles athletes. No. 62 Croyder has played all six dual matches at the fifth position, going 4-2 thus far with three of his wins coming in straight sets. No. 87 Bryde has had an impressive start to the spring season from court four, holding a perfect 4-0 mark including a ranked win over USC's No. 65 Bradley Frye. With four ranked in singles, the Bulldogs are tied for the third-most included in the poll.

Georgia also had one doubles team earn a ranking in this week's poll, with Bryde and Quinn earning the No. 24 spot. The tandem has earned two wins together on court one, both of which clinched the doubles point for Georgia. Two of their losses in the spring season have come in a breaker.

Consistency is Key
In each of the team's seven matches, the Bulldogs have fielded the same doubles lineup, winning the point in four matches. Georgia has had at least one doubles win in all but one of the dual-match season thus far.

In singles, No. 5 Quinn, No. 8 Henning and No. 62 Croyder have all played on courts one, two and five respectively the entire spring season. A combination of No. 5 Quinn, No. 8 Henning, No. 87 Bryde, Giusca, No. 62 Croyder and Perez Peña has been the choice of Georgia's single lineup in every match except against No. 7 USC in the SEC/Pac-12 Challenge.

Straight-Sets
Georgia has straight-set victories in 12 of the team's 20 dual match singles wins. No. 62 Croyder and No. 8 Henning lead the team with three wins each. Of those 12 straight-set wins, seven of them came in matches that were 6-4, 6-4 or better. No. 62 Croyder, No. 8 Henning and Perez Peña each have two, while No. 5 Quinn has one.

Last Year, Best Year
All three of Georgia's wins this season have been clinched by seniors, with Trent Bryde winning to defeat LSU and Philip Henning clinching the victory over both Louisville, earning the team a spot at the ITA National Indoor Championships, and No. 16 Stanford on court two. In doubles, two pairs of redshirt seniors have manned courts two and three in each match this season. Teodor Giusca and Henning have two wins on court two, while Blake Croyder and Britton Johnston are 5-0 on court three and are the only pair with double-digit wins on the team.

Three of the four Bulldogs to have at least three wins in the dual match season are also seniors, with Bryde, Croyder and Henning all reaching the mark. Henning and Bryde are tied for most on the team with four each.
