December 01, 2023 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia graduate midfielder Croix Bethune was named to the 2023 United Soccer Coaches All-America Second Team, as announced Friday afternoon by the organization in Kansas City.
Bethune was among 46 student-athletes named to the roster and was one of three players to receive All-America honors for the third time in their career. The Alpharetta native was previously named to the First Team in 2021 and 2022 while playing at USC.
For Georgia, it marks a third-consecutive season with an All-American player, following Mollie Belisle (2021) and Abby Boyan (2022) both earning Third Team honors. Bethune is the fifth Bulldog in program history to be named an All-American, including Belisle, Boyan, Stephanie Yarem Ransom (1997, 1998), and Carrie Patterson (2007).
Additionally, Georgia and Arkansas are the only two Southeastern Conference programs to produce All-Americans in three straight seasons.
Bethune finished her first season in Athens with 13 points, including four goals and five assists, while playing in 15 games with 13 starts. The Alpharetta native opened her Bulldog career with a goal against LSU in her first 10 minutes of action on Sept. 21 and earned Second Team All-SEC honors before posting a terrific postseason run that included the first SEC Tournament title in program history. Bethune was named SEC Tournament MVP after scoring an equalizer against Kentucky in the quarterfinals before scoring the winning goal with 27 seconds remaining against Texas A&M in the semifinals. In the NCAA Tournament, she assisted on both goals against Liberty in the first round, followed by the go-ahead goal in the third-round match against Clemson.
The 2023 All-America Team will be recognized at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony & Reception on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
