November 08, 2023 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia men's tennis program has signed Aidan Atwood, a five-star recruit and the third-ranked player in the state, to its 2024 class, head coach Manuel Diaz announced Wednseday afternoon.
A native of Suwanee, Atwood has a career-high national ranking of No. 28 in the 2024 class according to tennisrecruiting.net and is ranked fifth in the United States Tennis Association 18U rankings. He stands at 6-foot tall, plays right-handed and comes from the Darko Byrd Tennis Academy.
"We are once again very excited to have one of our best junior players from our state become a part of our program," Diaz said. "Aidan comes from a family of Georgia graduates and has always shown a desire to represent the University of Georgia. He brings a great work ethic and connected with our program very easily. He has a game that will continue to get better. We can't wait for him to join our squad this coming fall."
As a junior, Atwood won the Section L1 18s team title and the Southern 18U events. He also finished fourth at the USTA Boys' 16 National Clay Court Championships and fifth at the 18u National Doubles tournament.
Atwood holds 13 wins against other five-star prospects and was named the 2022 Forsyth County News Boys Tennis Player of the Year after going undefeated while playing in Region 6-7A at Lambert High School.
Georgia finished its fall season this past weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational, headlined by freshman Parker Mariencheck going undefeated in singles action during the event. The team's final tournament before the dual match season will be the Gamecock Invitational hosted by South Carolina on Jan. 5-7, 2024.
