Georgia Finishes Sixth, van Wyk in Eighth at Ka’anapali Collegiate

LAHAINA, Hawaii — The Georgia men's golf team finished the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in sixth place with a 31-under 821 with Ben van Wyk earning his second-straight top-10 finish on Saturday at the Royal Kā'anapali Course.
The Bulldogs were paced by Beck Burnette and van Wyk during round three on the par-71, 6,700-yard layout. The graduate students both shot a five-under 66, with van Wyk ending tied for eighth at 10-under 203 on the individual leaderboard while Burnette concluded the tournament tied for 30th at five-under 208.
Georgia shot 14-under 270 on Saturday, tying it for the second-best final round of any team. East Tennessee State and Oklahoma claimed co-championships at 42-under 810.
Burnette totaled seven birdies on the last day, the most he's had in a single round during his Bulldog career, putting his tournament total at 17. Van Wyk had five birdies on the front nine and held par on the final nine holes to finish in the top 10 for the fifth time while at Georgia.
Connor Creasy joined van Wyk in the top 15 on the leaderboards as the graduate had his best individual finish of the season. This marked the eighth time he ended a tournament in the top 20, shooting a two-under 69 during the final round for an eight-under 205 total. Camden Smith started the day on number six and eagled the 460-yard, par-five hole. The freshman posted a two-under 69 for a four-under 209 finish in his first collegiate tournament.
Individually, junior JT Herman had a consistent final round, shooting one-under par to end his first event of the season seven-over. Sophomore Carter Loflin had five birdies and finished five-over 218.
This event marks the final fall competition for Georgia, who previously played in the Valero Texas Collegiate, SEC Match Play Hosted by Jerry Pate and the Ben Hogan Collegiate. The Bulldogs will next play at the Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue, on Feb. 11-13, 2024.
