Pair of Bulldogs Fall in ITA Southeast Regional Championships Qualifying Rounds

Gainesville, Fla. — Sophomore Haley Gaudette and freshman Tatum Buffington opened qualifying round action at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships as the duo fell in singles and doubles play on Thursday.

Starting the day with singles play in the morning, Gaudette made her season debut and faced off against No. 3 seed Meera Jesudason (Georgia Tech). Trailing early in the match, Gaudette pushed to close the deficit but fell 6-0 to trail after one set. In the second set, Gaudette produced a more competitive string of games while managing to take one, but she ultimately fell 6-0, 6-1 to Jesudason.

Buffington returned to action for the first time since the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic as she was slotted to take on Ema Barianakova (Kennesaw State). Despite taking a game in the set, the first set leaned opposite as Buffington fell 6-1. The second set proved to be closer as Buffington took three games, but it was not enough as she fell 6-1, 6-3 in the match.

In doubles action, the duo made their debut as they faced off against the pairing of Anslee Long and Alisa Lyshko (North Florida) in a pro set. The Bulldogs kept the score line close early on, but momentum swung opposite as the pairing fell 8-3.

Other Georgia women's tennis action on Thursday saw sophomore Alexandra Vecic face off against Alexa Noel in the ITF Macon 80K second round. Vecic held up strong in the first set as she kept the score line tight heading into the midway point of the set. Despite the tight finish, Vecic dropped the first set 6-4. Hoping to level the match in the second, all momentum leaned opposite as Vecic fell 6-4, 6-0 in the match.
