Bulldogs Sweep Day Two in the Desert

Indian Wells, Calif. — The University of Georgia women's tennis picked up a perfect 10 wins – seven singles and three doubles – over the Kansas Jayhawks on day two of the Duel in the Desert.
In singles, Georgia picked up seven wins on the day. Graduate Meg Kowalski, senior Ania Hertel, sophomores Guillermina Grant, Mai Nirundorn and Dasha Vidmanova and freshman Anastasiia Lopata won in straight sets, while sophomore Mell Reasco went the distance again. After dropping the opening set, Reasco came back to defeat No. 26 Malkia Ngounoue 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. No. 31 Vidmanova (UGA) defeated Maria Titova 6-1, 6-3, while No. 64 Lopata cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Heike Janse Van Vuuren. No. 100 Kowalski (UGA) topped Tamari Gagoshidze (KU) 6-0, 6-4. Hertel picked up a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Carmen Roxana Manu, while Nirundorn beat Mariana Mayoma-Velazquez 6-4, 6-1 and Grant defeated Jocelyn Massey 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles action, the Bulldogs picked up three wins. Sophomores Nirundorn and Grant defeated Malkia Ngounoue and Heike Janse Van Vururen 6-2, while Reasco and Kowalski dominated Maria Titova Tamari Gagoshidze 6-1 and Hertel and Vidmanova topped Carmen Roxana Manu and Jocelyn Massey 6-2.
The Bulldogs will finish play at the Duel in the Desert with matches against student-athletes from Texas Tech on Sunday, January 15.
