Track & Field Set To Start 2023 Indoor Campaign

ATHENS, Ga. --- The Bulldogs travel to Clemson, S.C., on Friday in preparation for the indoor season-opening Clemson Invite scheduled for Friday and Saturday.  
 
This marks Georgia's first of two trips to Clemson this year (Tiger Paw, Feb. 10-11) after the Bulldogs made the same pair of trips across the state border in 2022.
 
When Do The Bulldogs Start?: A pair of Lady Bulldog newcomers – Leah Anderson and Ella Rush – begin the action for UGA on Friday in the long jump at 2 p.m.  Meanwhile on the track, Simone Rojas, Charlotte Augenstein, Lily Cincola and Janie Sandel are the first Georgia competitors slated to run in the 1000 meters at 2:10 p.m.
 
Saturday's action begins with All-American Elena Kulichenko in the high jump at 10:30 a.m. while NCAA champion Matthew Boling runs the first 300m of his career at 12:15 p.m. to start the track events.
 
The Competition: Auburn, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Montreat, Northern Colorado, Tennessee and Wofford join Georgia and Clemson in the field this weekend.
     
Where To Catch The Clemson Invite: There will be ESPN streaming coverage beginning at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Coach Caryl's Comments: "We are excited to make the trip to Clemson and start this indoor season," said second-year Bulldog head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert.  "We have a mixture of returning student-athletes and excited newcomers who have all put in a full fall of training in preparation for the next six months of competition.  It all starts with the Clemson Invite so we going to lay a solid foundation to build on Friday and Saturday.  GO DAWGS!"
 
What Bulldogs Are Competing?: For the Lady Bulldogs, Anderson, Augenstein, Mia Anderson, Eddiyah Frye, Aaliyah Butler, Rojas, Ana da Silva, Kaila Jackson, Kulichenko, Mikeisha Welcome, Cincola, Zoe Pollock, Hali Murphy, Bella Witt, Titiana Marsh, Madison McConico, Dominique Mustin, Katherine Law, Brandee Presley, Rush, Autumn Wilson, Audrey Knoper and Kenondra Davis travel to compete at the Rock Norman Track & Field Complex.
            
On the men's side, Keshaun Black, Sam Bowers, Elija Godwin, Alon Rogow, Nikolai van Huyssteen, Christopher Morales Williams, Kyle Garland, Will Sumner, Johannes Erm, KC Heron, Boling, Zack Truitt, Ziggy Zoller, Caleb Cavanaugh, Shamali Whittle and Clay Pender will represent Georgia.
 
A Glimpse At The 2022 Indoor Season: In Smith Gilbert's first indoor campaign, the Bulldog men highlighted the season by taking eighth at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships following a seventh-place showing at the Southeastern Conference Championships.  Boling (60m, 4x400m relay, long jump), Cavanaugh/Bryce McCray/Godwin (4x400m relay) and Garland (heptathlon) combined to score 23 points at Nationals.  Kulichenko and da Silva combined to score 2.2 points for the Lady Bulldogs as they were 46th at the NCAA meet after taking ninth at SECs.
 
What's Next For The Bulldogs?: Following the opener, Georgia will travel a group to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., next weekend before making the trip to Lubbock, Texas, for the Texas Tech Open & Multis on Jan. 26-28.  
 
A second trip to Clemson as well as one to the Music City Challenge (Nashville, Tenn.) arrive during the second weekend in February.  The Bulldogs make their usual swing to Fayetteville, Ark., on Feb. 17, this time for the Arkansas Qualifier – Last Chance meet.  One week later the SEC Indoor Championships arrive on the Arkansas campus in the Tyson Indoor Track Center (Feb. 24-25).  The finale of the indoor season arrives with the NCAA Championships in Albuquerque on March 10-11.
