Starks And Williams Named FWAA Freshman All-Americans

ATHENS-----University of Georgia defensive back Malaki Starks and defensive lineman Mykel Williams have been named to the Freshman All-America Team by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA), the organization announced Thursday.
A 6-1, 205-pound native of Jefferson, Ga., Starks played in all 15 games with 14 starts during the national championship season. He finished third on the team with 68 tackles and tied for second with a pair of interceptions. A 6-5, 265-pound native of Columbus, Ga., Williams led the Bulldogs with 4.5 sacks, 30 quarterback pressures plus tallied 28 tackles in 15 games with two starts. Earlier this season, Starks and Williams earned College Football News Freshman All-America honors plus were named to the Freshman All-SEC squad.
In the College Football Playoff National Championship Game rout of No. 3 TCU, Williams registered a sack and made a pair of tackles while Starks was credited with one tackle. Top-ranked Georgia (15-0) claimed its fourth national championship this past Monday and was the first team to win back-to-back titles in the College Football Playoff era.
Georgia was one of three schools to place two players on this year's 32-man FWAA Freshman All-America team. Georgia now has had 28 players earn Freshman All-America honors since 2003.
