September 08, 2022 | Women's Tennis
FLUSHING, N.Y. — University of Georgia women's tennis alum, Ellen Perez will make history this evening when she takes the court with partner Nicole Melichar-Martinez at the US Open. Perez becomes the first player in Georgia women's tennis history to advance to the semifinals of any major championship.
No. 10 seed Perez and Melichar-Martinez will face off against the No. 3 seed Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova – 2022 Australian Open and Wimbledon doubles champions – at Louis Armstrong Stadium at 5 p.m. ET.
The familiar foes will square off for the third time in three months tonight. In August, Perez and Melichar-Martinez defeated Krejcikova and Siniakova in straight sets at the Cincinnati Doubles Open 6-3, 6-2, and were the only duo to take a set off of Krejcikova and Siniakova at Wimbledon in July.
The US Open will be broadcasted on the ESPN family of networks, with coverage beginning at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
