FLUSHING, NY. — Georgia tennis alum Jan Zielinski's run in the main draw of men's doubles in the US Open has put him in elite company.

He along with partner Hugo Nys have defeated Ariel Behar and Gonzalo Escobar by a 6-1, 6-4 score on Sunday morning at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The win marks the first time a player from the program has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Grand Slam event since Travis Parrott did so in 2004.

Zielinski and Nys will have to wait to find out their next opponent. The tandem will face the winner between top-seed Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury or No. 15 Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini, which is set to play later today.

The former Bulldog and his partner came out firing, swiftly claiming the first set by a 6-1 result. However, their adversaries managed to respond early in the second set and put Zielinski and Nys on their heels.

The pair fell behind early in the second set, down 3-2, put forced numerous doubles points when down a game to tie the set eventually at four games each side. Behind winning points 88% of the time on first serve, Zielinski and Nys managed to win the last two games and win their third round matchup.

The US Open will be broadcasted on the ESPN family of networks, with coverage beginning at 11 a.m. ET every day on ESPN+.
