ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia gymnastics team has added two more gymnasts to the roster for 2023, according to head coach Courtney Kupets Carter.

Josie Angeny, a graduate transfer from Kentucky, and Ja Free Scott of Independence, Missouri have signed to join the GymDogs next season.

"We are thrilled to add Josie and Ja Free to our already highly talented class of newcomers for the 2023 season," Kupets Carter said. "Josie's proven experience along with Ja Free's talent and potential are sure to bring added excitement to Stegeman Coliseum and we can't wait for them to be integrated into the team."

Angeny, a native of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, is a three-time All-SEC honoree.  As a junior with the Wildcats she earned two first place finishes competing All Around, equaled or surpassed career highs on all five events throughout the season, won the beam title at NCAA Salt Lake City Regional Finals, and scored career highs of 9.900 on floor, tied career high of 9.950 on beam, and notched an all-around score of 39.55. She tied to qualify as an individual to NCAA Nationals on beam. In her senior year she won beam at Arkansas, tying career high of a 9.95, and tied for first on bars against Michigan State with a career high of 9.95. Again, she tied to qualify as an individual to NCAA Nationals on beam.

"As a graduate student, Josie will bring leadership and experience which will immediately benefit the team," Kupets Carter continued. "She has competed in every event and she has proven to be a consistent, reliable performer on any apparatus."

"I visited UGA for the first time in 2012 and immediately fell in love with the campus and atmosphere," Angeny said. "All these years it has never left my mind, I have always wanted to live in the south and when this opportunity presented itself, I just knew in my heart I was meant to be here."

Ja Free Scott with the GymDogs after training at GAGE (Great American Gymnastics Express).  She was a USA National Team member in 2018.  She competed for the USA on an international assignment.  She is a Junior Elite qualifier and championship qualifier.

"Ja Free is coming from one of the top gyms in the country," Kupets Carter said. "She will have an immediate impact on bars and beam with her exquisite technique and form. We are excited to see how she grows as a GymDog."

"I chose UGA because the second that I arrived it felt like home," Scott said. "Everyone was so
sweet and kind, I could imagine and see myself here for the next four years. I loved the atmosphere, weather, coaches, staff and the athletes. I look forward to becoming a GymDog."

Angeny and Scott join Madelyn Crow of Williamson, Georgia, Sidney Fitzgerald of Evans, Georgia, Nicole King of Johns Creek, Eryn Williams of Knoxville, Tennessee, Naya Howard of Chesapeake, Virginia, Jacquelyn (Jacquie) Moran of Santa Cruz, California, and Ariel Posen of Manalapan, New Jersey as newcomers during the 2023 season.
