ATHENS, Ga. — Jacky Dorsey, Georgia Basketball's career scoring average leader, recently passed away. Dorsey scored 23.7 points per game in two seasons with the Bulldogs from 1974-76.Dorsey, a product of Archer High School in Atlanta, was regarded as one of the SEC's most exciting players during his collegiate career. He made an instant impact with the Bulldogs as a freshman, ranking second in the SEC and 12th nationally in scoring, averaging 25.8 points per game en route to earning first-team All-SEC honors. Dorsey was a consensus All-SEC honoree in 1976 after averaging 21.8 points per game as a sophomore. In the process, he became the first Bulldog ever to become a two-time, first-team All-SEC selection by both league coaches and the Associated Press.
Dorsey's 23.7 points per game during his career is 1.6 points per game more than any other Bulldog. Though he only played as a freshman and sophomore for the Bulldogs, Dorsey left Athens ranked No. 5 among Georgia's career scoring leaders with 1,234 points. Today, he ranks No. 27 on that ledger.
Among the Bulldogs' career statistical leaders, he also ranks No. 5 in average rebounds (10.6 ppg), No. 25 in total rebounds (550), No. 14 in field goal percentage (.491) and No. 16 in field goals made (519). Additionally, Dorsey holds Georgia's single-game record for field goal attempts, putting up 31 shots against Southern Miss on Dec. 17, 1974 en route to a career-high 43 points.
Dorsey turned professional following his sophomore season and was selected by the New Orleans Jazz in the second round of the 1976 NBA Draft. He went on to play for Denver, Portland, Houston and Seattle during his NBA career.
Dorsey, who was born on Dec. 18, 1954 in Atlanta, was honored as Georgia's SEC Basketball Legend during the 2015 SEC Tournament.
