Georgia Riders Earn All-SEC Recognition, Four Named SEC Rider of the Year

ATHENS, Ga. --- Eight riders on the University of Georgia equestrian team garnered 11 All-Southeastern Conference honors and four collected Rider of the Year recognition, it was announced Tuesday by the conference office. 
 
Sophomore Jordan Toering and junior Caitlin Lyons were named SEC Rider of the Year for Flat and Reining, respectively.  Jillian Stopperich was named Co-Horsemanship Rider of the Year while Jax Bound was named the Freshman Reining Rider of the Year. 
 
Toering earned All-SEC honors in both Flat and Fences, while fifth-year senior Hayley Mairano received recognition for Fences.  On the Western side, Stopperich and senior Sara Lewis were named All-SEC for Horsemanship while Lyons and Bound were recognized for Reining.  
 
Stopperich and Bound also received All-Freshman recognition in their respective events.  Catalina Peralta received All-Freshman honors in Fences and Isabella Hehr was honored for Reining.  
 
Toering, a native of Waterford, Virginia, rode to a 11-2 overall record in Flat with a 4-2 mark against SEC during the regular season.  She went undefeated at the SEC Championship and won two Most Outstanding Performer honors to be named to the All-Championship in Flat. She rode to Georgia's two highest scores of the season (97.5, 94) in Flat and her score of 97.5 is the fifth highest in program history.
 
Lyons, rode to a 9-3-1 overall record with a 4-1-1 regular season mark against SEC opponents.  She won two MOP honors and rode to five scores of 70 or better, three times against SEC foes. She rode to Georgia's highest Reining score of the season against Texas A&M (72.5).  
 
In her rookie season, Stopperich rode to a 7-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 SEC record throughout the regular season. She earned two MOP honors and rode to four scores of 75 or better, two times against SEC opponents.  She was named NCEA and SEC Rider of the Month in March. 
 
In her freshman campaign, Bound rode to a 12-1 overall record with a 5-1 mark in the SEC.  She earned three MOP honors and received four scores of 70 or better, three times against SEC opponents. Bound rode to Georgia's second highest Reining score of the season against Texas A&M (72.5) and scored a 219.5 at the SEC Championship, which is the highest in championship history with three judges. 
 
The Bulldogs received the fifth seed for the 2022 NCEA National Championship, taking place April 14-16 at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida.  Georgia's quest for its eighth national title starts Wednesday, April 14, as the Bulldogs face No. 4 TCU.
