MSU Avoids Sweep With Sunday Win

March 20, 2022 | Baseball

ATHENS, Ga. – The 18th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs fell to 24th-ranked Mississippi State 20-3 Sunday afternoon in front of 3.373 spectators at Foley Field.

"We have to turn the page," said Georgia's Ike Cousins head baseball coach Scott Stricklin. "We just have to look back at the weekend. It was a tough day, but a really good weekend. We just have to turn the page. Guys have to make adjustments, step up and be better than that. We won a series against the defending national champions. That was our goal coming into the weekend. It was a good weekend, just a bad day."

Georgia's (16-4, 2-1 SEC) three runs came on eight hits, led by a 2-for-3, two-RBI performance by Cory Acton and a 2-for-4, performance from Chaney Rogers, while four Bulldogs notched one hit apiece. Georgia had won seven straight before falling on Sunday.

On the mound, Garrett Brown went 3.2 innings giving up three runs on two hits with three strikeouts. In relief, Davis Rokose went 1.1 innings giving up only one run on one hit after Will Pearson and Hank Bearden did not register an out facing a combined five batters in the fourth after Brown left the game. With runner on the corner, Cory Acton roped a two-RBI doubles to center-field to give UGA a 2-1 lead.

Georgia added to its lead in the third, plating one run. With runners on first and second, Chaney Rogers singled through the left side to score a run and give UGA a two-run lead.
