MESA, Ariz. — The Georgia women's golf team fired a 5-under 283 in Sunday's final round of the Clover Cup at Longbow Golf Club, pushing the No. 28-ranked Bulldogs up two spots to sixth on the final leaderboard. Georgia covered the 54-hole tourney at 2-over 866 as a team.
Senior Jo Hua Hung blistered the layout to the tune of 5-under 67 on Sunday to lead the Bulldogs, who also counted a 1-under 71 from Jenny Bae, an even-par 72 from Caterina Don and a 1-over 73 from Isabella Holpfer.
"I know we're close, and we're getting close," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We got a glimpse of that today, and I'm excited. We know we can build on today's round. We finished with our best round of the week, which means we closed well. That's what you want. Now we have a little time to build toward the Liz Murphey."
Georgia will host the 50th edition of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, one of the oldest events in all of women's intercollegiate athletics, in two weeks on March 25-27 at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
Hung mixed six birdies and one bogey en route to her team-leading 12 par-or-better score in 23 rounds this season. Bae and Don both notched par-or-better tallies in each of their three rounds in Arizona.
"Jo obviously had a really good round today," Brewer said. "Caterina and Jenny had very solid weekends. We had three individuals with strong performances that we can build on going forward."
Those three Bulldogs all finished under par and among the top-20 individuals, with Don tying for 10th at 4-under 212, Bae tying for 15th at 2-under 214 and Hung tying for 19th at 1-under 215. Caroline Craig, who shot 77 on Sunday, tied for 57th at 229, and Holpfer tied for 59th at 230.
Clemson won the team title by shooting 18-under 846, five shot ahead of No. 19 Texas A&M. LSU's Ingrid Lindblad was the medalist at 13-under, five shots better than a trio of runners-up.
