Bulldogs In 5th At Columbia Classic

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Buoyed by top-5 positions by Jenny Bae and Caterina Don on the individual leaderboard, the Georgia women's golf team is in fifth place after two rounds of the Columbia Classic presented by Moon Golf.
Bae's Sunday loops included a 74 and a 68, putting her at 2-under and just a single shot off the pace of Emily Mahar from Virginia Tech. Don shot 72-71, her seventh and eighth par-or-better efforts in 16 rounds this season.
"Jenny had a very good round this afternoon, and Caterina was solid all day," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We just need to get that third, fourth and fifth scores like those so we can be on top of the leaderboard at the end of the day tomorrow. We know we've got the talent. We just need to have all five players go out and play like they're capable, and we'll be in good shape."
As a team, the Bulldogs posted a combined 11-over 587 in Sunday's first and second rounds at Duran Golf Club. Georgia is seven strokes behind Texas Tech, which shot 580, followed by Virginia Tech at 582, Illinois at 583 and No. 2 Oklahoma State at 584.
Georgia carded an 8-over 296 in the morning. In addition to Don's even-par, the Bulldogs also counted a 74 from Bae and a pair of 75s, the score posted by Candice Mahé, Isabella Holpfer and Jo Hung Hung.
Georgia trimmed five shots off that effort in the afternoon, firing a 3-over 291. Joining Bae and Don with counting rounds were Holpfer with a 75 and Hung with a 77.
Overall, Holpfer is tied for 25th at 150, Hung is tied for 34th at 152 and Mahé is tied for 40th at 153. Zoë Walker, who is competing individually, is tied for 67th at 161.
Georgia will be paired with Oklahoma State and Tulsa for Monday's final round. The 8:30 a.m. shotgun start will feature the Bulldogs, Cowgirls and Golden Hurricanes beginning on holes Nos. 4-7. Live scoring will be available via golfstat.com.
