Georgia Athletics Has Record Fall Semester in Competition, Classroom

ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia Athletic Association student-athletes recorded a best-ever 3.22 Fall semester GPA. This comes on the heels of a strong semester of competition for the Bulldogs. 
 
"We are proud of our student-athletes for their academic and athletic performances this Fall," said J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Josh Brooks. "Our coaches are committed to recruiting the best and brightest to represent Georgia. The academic strength of our institution and these stellar data points reinforce that we are an academic and athletic powerhouse."
 
The women's soccer and volleyball programs made history as both teams made respective NCAA Tournaments in the same year for the first time ever.  Additionally, Georgia football recorded an undefeated regular season on the way to an SEC Championship and will make its second-straight College Football Playoff appearance.  
 
Nineteen of Georgia's 21 programs recorded semester GPAs of 3.0 or better. Baseball, men's basketball, football, men's tennis, softball, soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's cross country, and volleyball recorded program-high Fall term GPAs. 
 
Of Georgia's 523 student-athletes, 194 recorded a 3.5 or better in the Fall and 354 (67.6%) earned a 3.0 or better. 
 
Cross country (3.7) led all women's programs in the classroom followed by swimming and diving (3.577) and volleyball (3.576). In all, 31 women's student-athletes earned a 4.0 GPA in the Fall while 90 were in the 3.5-3.99 range. Overall, 197 (80.4%) women's student-athletes recorded a 3.0 or better. 
 
Tennis (3.68) put together the best team GPA on the men's side followed by cross country (3.346) and golf (3.340). 11 men's student-athletes concluded the semester with a 4.0 GPA while 62 fell earned a 3.5-3.99 average. In all, 157 (56.4%) men's student-athletes recorded a 3.0 or better. 
 
Women's team averages include cross country (3.7), swimming and diving (3.577), volleyball (3.576), soccer (3.55), softball (3.49), tennis (3.47), track and field (3.44), golf (3.36), equestrian (3.32), gymnastics (3.25), and basketball (3.02). 
 
Men's team averages were tennis (3.68), cross country (3.346), golf (3.340), swimming and diving (3.24), track and field (3.21), baseball (3.11), basketball (2.97), and football (2.83).
