Brock Bowers Named CSC Academic All-American

ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog sophomore tight end Brock Bowers has been voted to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America First Team, according to an announcement Tuesday.

Bowers, a Napa, Calif., native was one of four players from the Southeastern Conference on the 26-man First Team.  He has already won this year's John Mackey Award for being the nation's top tight end and was included on the All-America First Team for the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) FBS Coaches' and the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA).

This marks the first Academic All-America First Team selection for the Bulldogs since Rodrigo Blankenship earned the honor in 2019.  Bowers is the 23rd Bulldog First Team selection dating back to 1960.

Bowers, who sports a 3.59 GPA in Finance, has a team-best 52 catches for 726 yards and six touchdowns.  He also has six carries for 93 yards and three scores. In addition, Bowers has been a pivotal blocker for a Bulldog offense that averages 207 yards on the ground and has allowed only seven sacks this year.  He was also a Rotary Lombardi Award finalist in his second season at Georgia.

 The Bulldogs battle No. 4 Ohio State (11-1) in the College Football Playoff (CFP) Semifinal Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 31.  ESPN will televise the matchup at 8 p.m.
