Bulldogs Continue Play in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. — The University of Georgia women's tennis picked up three wins – two singles and one doubles – on day two of the NC State Invitational. In total, the Bulldogs tallied seven wins – five singles and two doubles.
"We had another great day here in Raleigh," said Georgia associate head coach Drake Bernstein. "Gigi battled through a tough, physical match coming out on top in the third set, while Nastya played one of the most clean matches she's played here at a Georgia today. She was outstanding start to finish. Although she didn't get the win, I think today was a step forward for Mai. She had leads in both sets and showed she could go toe to toe with a player ranked top 10 in the country.
Freshman Anastasiia Lopata opened the day with another straight-set win, this time over Wisconsin's Taylor Cataldi 6-2, 6-3. She was followed by sophomore Guillermina Grant who topped Duke's Iuliia Bryzgalova 6-7, 7-6, 6-2, while sophomore Mai Nirundorn fell in straight-sets.
In doubles, Grant and Nirundorn squared off against Duke's Iuliia Bryzgalova and Emma Jackson. The Bulldog duo made quick work of the Blue Devils, picking up a 6-3 victory.
"Mai and Gigi continued to impress with their doubles" said Bernstein. "They are getting better at winning with position rather than only by the shots they hit. We are looking to close the fall tomorrow on a high note, competing together and with energy."
The Bulldogs will conclude play at the NC State Invitational on Sunday, November 6.
