Bulldogs End Day Two of GT Invitational Undefeated in Singles

ATLANTA – The Georgia Bulldogs men's tennis team had an outstanding day two at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Saturday, with all four of its players winning their singles matches at the Byers Tennis Complex.
 
Britton Johnston, Thomas Paulsell and Miguel Perez Peña each won their matches in straight sets, while Teodor Giusca earned a victory in a three-set battle.
 
"I was proud to see our four guys respond with very good tennis in singles," said head coach Manny Diaz. "It was Thomas' best match this fall. Miguel and Britton have had a very good tournament through today. Teodor did a fantastic job completing the day in singles. He's such a great competitor and has done a good job working on his game and improving this fall. We are lookaing forward to finishing strong tomorrow."
 
The Bulldogs were unable to pick up a victory in doubles on the second day of the event. Giusca and Johnston were bested by Miami's Casper Christensen and Martin Katz by an 8-6 score, while Paulsell and Perez Peña fell to Nathan Cox and Joubert Klopper of Vanderbilt by an 8-2 result.
 
In the individual matches, though, Georgia played great tennis once again.. 
 
Paulsell earned his first win at the Invitational and his sixth of the season with a win over Keshav Chopra (Georgia Tech) in a 7-5, 6-4 decision. Following the sophomore's win was Perez Peña, who defeated SEC adversary Jeremie Casabon of Vanderbilt, 6-2, 6-4. 
 
Johnston followed up his win on day one with another on day two, besting Middle Tennessee State's Shu Matsuoka 6-3, 6-3 to improve to 2-0 on the weekend in singles. Giusca also earned a hard-fought win against Theo Dean of Yale by a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 score and improving to 8-4 on the season.
 
Georgia will conclude the event and its fall season tomorrow, with doubles set to begin at 10 a.m. ET.
 
Doubles will be played in an eight-game pro set format, with no-ad scoring and a tiebreaker at 7-7, while singles will be in a best-of-three-set format with no-ad scoring.
 
Scores will be posted to the tournament central homepage on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association website. Live streaming can be found on the Playsight App.
