November 04, 2022 | Women's Tennis
RALEIGH, N.C. — The University of Georgia women's tennis went unblemished on day one of the NC State Invitational on Friday, Nov. 4. In total, the Bulldogs tallied four total wins – three singles and one doubles.
"It was an awesome start to the final weekend of the fall season today," said Georgia associate head coach Drake Bernstein. "Gigi and Mai played good, aggressive doubles from start to finish – getting a ranked win. Nastya had a big win today in singles over a player who has been ranked top-10 in college. Down three set points in a row in the first set, she came up with some good stuff and battled all the way through. Both Mai and Gigi also collected some nice singles wins - playing tough start to finish."
Freshman Anastasiia Lopata opened the day with a straight-set win over Duke's Iuliia Bryzgalova 7-6(3), 6-4. She was followed by sophomores Guillermina Grant and Mai Nirundorn who also defeated their opponents in straight sets. Grant, a native of Montevideo, Uruguay topped Wisconsin's Alina Mukhortova 6-4, 6-4, while Nirundorn picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Wisconsin's Xinyu Cai.
In doubles, Grant and Nirundorn squared off against Wisconsin Cai and Mukhortova. The Bulldog duo made quick work of the Badgers, picking up a 6-3 victory.
The Bulldogs will continue play at the NC State Invitational on Saturday, November 5. First Serve is slated for 10 a.m.
