November 28, 2022 | Gymnastics
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia gymnastics program has added three gymnasts to the 2023 class, which was named the top signing class by collegegymnews.com, head coach Courtney Kupets Carter has announced.
Kelsey Lee of Bradenton, Florida, Zora Morgan of Atlanta, Georgia, and Anya Turner of Highland Ranch, Colorado will join Jaydah Battle of Hampton, Virginia, Heather Parker of Rockvale, Tennessee, Lily Smith of Limerick, Pennsylvania, and Holly Snyder of Annapolis, Maryland as freshmen during the 2024 season.
"I am thrilled to add these three gymnasts to an already extremely talented class," Kupets Carter said. "We know they are going to add depth to all four events through their competitive success over the years. Adding to their gymnastics contributions, they will also bring great leadership qualities to the team. We can't wait to get them in our facilities and competing in the unmatched atmosphere of Stegeman Coliseum."
Kelsey Lee comes to Georgia after training at Lakewood Ranch Gymnastics. She won a Bronze Medal for Vault at Regionals in 2021 and qualified to Secret Classic in 2016. Additionally, Lee was the 2017 and 2019 Level 10 Bars State Champion and qualified for nationals in 2018.
"Ever since I went to my first UGA summer camp six years ago I knew this is where I wanted to be," Lee said. "With UGA being my dream school ever since I was little, I was always drawn to the team atmosphere, amazing college spirit, and the beautiful campus."
Zora Morgan becomes a Bulldog after training at Orlando Metro Gymnastics. She was the 2022 Florida Beam State Champion and qualified for Nationals as a Bars Specialist. In 2021, Morgan placed second in Bars and Beam at the Florida State.
"Since I was born and raised in Georgia, UGA has always been home to me," Morgan said. "I've wanted to go to the University of Georgia since I went to my first gymnastics camp there when I was six years old, where I won the Dancing Diva Award. The familiarity and feeling of home is why I chose the University of Georgia."
Anya Turner comes to UGA after training at Colorado Gymnastics Institute. She is a two-time nationals qualifier and two-time bronze medalist on floor. She was a member of the Colorado Gymnastics Institute team that won state four years in a row.
"I love the campus and the overall environment of UGA," Turner said. "The energy is like nowhere else and the people are so welcoming and fun. I've always wanted to go to college in the south and Georgia was the perfect fit."
