ATHENS, Ga. – Four members of the University of Georgia soccer team were named to the 2022 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, as announced by College Sports Communications, the organization formerly known as CoSIDA.
Juniors Madison Haugen, Tori Penn, and Taylor Rish, as well as sophomore Morgan Hart were recognized for their successes this season on the field and in the classroom. Georgia's four honorees matches the previous program high set in 2011 and marks the first All-District honorees since Caroline Chipman in 2020. Georgia has now earned 16 Academic All-District accolades in its program history.
Haugen, a Finance and Risk Management & Insurance double-major from Cumming, carries a 3.94 GPA and ranks second on the team with 13 points this season. She tallied a team-high seven assists, including one on Dani Murguia's winning goal last Friday against Samford in the NCAA Tournament first round. Earlier this season, she scored the winning goal at Kentucky and the tying goal at Mississippi State that clinched an SEC Tournament bye. She was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Team of the Week after a career-high two assists at Florida. She has twice been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and earned Presidential Scholars (4.0 GPA) honors in the previous two fall semesters.
Penn, an Interior Design major from Atlanta, carries a 3.93 GPA and ranks third on the team with four goals. This season, she scored winning goals against Georgia Southern and College of Charleston, along with the clinching goal in the Bulldogs' 2-0 SEC Tournament win over Tennessee. She also tallied her first career assist at Texas A&M. She has twice been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and earned Presidential Scholars honors in the fall 2020 semester.
Rish, a Finance and Sport Management double-major from Alpharetta, carries a 4.0 GPA and has posted a career year as one of Georgia's top reserves. This season, she appeared in 20 matches and played a career-best 529 minutes. She scored the first three goals of her career against Georgia Southern, College of Charleston, and Florida. She has been twice named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has earned Presidential Scholars honors in each semester of her career.
Hart, a Finance major from Charlotte, North Carolina, carries a 4.0 GPA and has led the Bulldogs with 1,854 field minutes at center back. As a crucial member of the team's backline, she has helped the team allow only 14 goals, the second fewest in program history. She was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2021 and earned Presidential Scholars honors in both semesters of her freshman year.
The four Bulldogs advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December. Georgia has received six All-America accolades in its program history.
Georgia faces North Carolina on Thursday, Nov. 17 in the NCAA Second Round at 3 p.m. in Chapel Hill.
