Georgia Men’s Tennis Finishes Four-In-The-Fall With Doubles Win

October 02, 2022 | Men's Tennis

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Georgia men's tennis team concluded the Alabama Four-In-The-Fall tournament on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Alabama Crimson squad in the consolation bracket finals despite sophomores Thomas Paulsell and Miguel Perez Peña's 6-3 result in doubles against Enzo Aguiard and Roan Jones.

"We finished strong in doubles by playing our best match of the weekend," said associate head coach Jamie Hunt. "Thomas and Miguel showed a lot of improvement. We were challenged in singles and couldn't quite get the job done, but a lot of positives from the weekend and we know exactly what we need to improve on."

Paulsell and Perez Peña picked up their first win together this year on the final day of play against some quality competition. Sophomore Aguiard was the Crimson Tide's choice for court two in singles last season, while Jones was the sixth-ranked under-18 British player as a junior.

Perez Peña concluded his singles matches at the Four-In-The-Fall dropping his match to Aguiard in a 6-4,4-6, 6-1 decision. The sophomore went 2-1 this weekend at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium, now standing at 4-2 so far in the fall season.

Fifth year Britton Johnston was also unable to defeat his singles opponent this afternoon, falling to Jones 6-1, 6-4.

Paulsell, a Seattle native, finished the weekend with two singles wins, improving to 4-1 on the year. The sophomore defeated Alabama's Joao Ferreira on Friday and Tulane's Charlie Barry on Saturday, both in straight sets. He did not compete in singles competition on Sunday.

The next fall event that will feature athlete from the Georgia men's tennis team is the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Tournament, set to get underway in Tulsa, Oklahoma this week.
