Bulldogs Continue Strong Play at the Sea Pine College Tournament

ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia women's tennis team posted 11 wins – six singles and five doubles – on Saturday, during the second day of the Sea Pines College Tournament.
"There was a lot of great tennis played out here today," said Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace. "It is early in the Fall and everybody is looking to get matches in. Trying to see things that players need to work on and I think this tournament is giving a lot of the coaches the information. We're looking forward to one more day of the Sea Pines College Tournament tomorrow."
Georgia posted five wins in doubles. Sophomores Guillermina Grant and Dasha Vidmanova defeated Old Dominions Allison Isaacs and Alexandra Viktorovitch 6-2, while Ania Hertel and Anastasiia Lopata beat Charlotte's Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins 6-1 in the first round of doubles. Meg Kowalski and Mell Reasco fell to Charlotte's Kaavya Sawhney and Ruxi Schech 6-4.
In round two of doubles, Hertel and Kowalski picked up a 6-1 win over Old Dominion's Shahar Biran/Alesya Yakubovich, while No. 20 Reasco and Vidmanova and the tandem of Grant and Lopata picked a pair of 6-3 victories over Charlotte's Lucie Petruzelova and Emma Wilkins and Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize (Ole Miss).
Kowalski earned the first victory of the day for the Bulldogs, in singles play. She dominated Furman's Marissa Pennings 6-0, 6-0. She was quickly followed by No. 101 Hertel who defeated Jess Dawson (Furman) 6-2, 6-1, while No. 26 Lea Ma topped Ole Miss' Lillian Gabrielsen 6-3, 6-1. Mai Nirundorn rounded out the first group of Bulldogs in singles action falling to Charlotte's Lucie Petruzelova in three sets.
In afternoon action, No. 79 Vidmanova cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Reka Zadori (Ole Miss). She was followed by Grant who earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Emma Wilkins (Charlotte). No. 13 Mell Reasco defeated Old Dominion's Allison Isaacs 6-0, 7-5, while Lopata fell heartbreakingly to Shahar Biran (Old Dominion) 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Georgia will continue action Sunday, Oct. 2, for the final day of the Sea Pine College Tournament. First serve is slated for 9 a.m.
