Georgia Opens 2022 at No. 1 Michigan

January 05, 2022 | Gymnastics

ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia gymnastics team is set to begin the 2022 season at reigning national champion Michigan on Thursday, January 6 at 7 p.m. at the Crisler Center in Ann Arbor.

The teams last met during the regular season for the 2016 opener, again at Michigan.  Georgia holds a 42-11 record against the Wolverines.

After the challenges that COVID brought to the 2021 season, Georgia starts this year as the No. 15 team in the country. The GymDogs have prepared strong for a successful 2022.

Many show-stopping gymnasts return to the lineup, including experienced seniors with consistent scores of 9.90 or better- Rachel Baumann, Rachael Lukacs, Mikayla Magee, Alyssa Perez-Lugones, Megan Roberts, Emily Schild, and Abbey Ward.

Juniors Amanda Cashman, Haley de Jong, Loulie Hattaway, and Soraya Hathorne also return with high expectations for their performances.  Additionally, sophomores Nhyla Bryant, Katie Finnegan, and Victoria Nguyen will round out the GymDog lineups.

Newcomers Sarah Cohen, Maeve Hahn, and Riley Milbrandt look forward to the collegiate environment as well.

The experience of the returning GymDogs is the most in head coach Courtney Kupets Carter's tenure at the helm.
