September 04, 2021 | Volleyball

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Georgia women's volleyball team fell to Nebraska Omaha in four sets (17-25, 22-25, 25-22, 28-30) at the Devaney Center on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Kacie Evans led with 16 kills, marking her third double-digit kill match of the weekend. She was followed by 13 from fellow junior Amber Stivrins.

Defensively, Redshirt freshman Mackenzie Norris put up seven blocks while sophomore Mallory Downing led in digs, notching 22.

Georgia opened the first set with an early 3-0 lead off an error from Omaha and two kills from freshman Lyric Stewart and Stivrins. UNO came back and tied it off a 6-3 run. The Bulldogs and Mavericks kept the score going back-and-forth. Retaking the lead, Omaha won the next six points compared to Georgia's three to run it up 14-9. The Mavericks would stay ahead and win the first set, 25-17.

The second set stayed close early on. Jumping ahead, Omaha scored five points (8-5). Led by Evans, Georgia cut the gap and stayed close behind 15-13. Norris helped Georgia come back in a big way with a kill and block, assisted by junior Meghan Froemming. A 3-1 run after a timeout gave Omaha the advantage once again. The Bulldogs responded with two kills, but it wouldn't be enough as Omaha took the set, 25-22.

Set three would send Omaha and Georgia into a fourth. The score stayed tied, until Georgia took a three-point lead. Three huge block assists from Norris, Stivrins and Froemming would send them ahead 12-9. The Mavericks tied it at 16-16, but Evans led the way to keep Georgia in front (20-17). The Bulldogs held onto their lead to win set three, 25-22.

Georgia took an early 6-4 lead until Omaha tied it with an error and kill. From there, they exchanged points until the Bulldogs pulled ahead 22-19. Omaha came back and kept it close to lengthen set four. Pulling ahead, Omaha came back on top (29-28). After two Georgia errors, UNO would win set four 30-28.
The Bulldogs are back in action Thursday at 6:00 p.m., ET, from Orlando as they face Florida State in the UCF Invitational.
