FRANKLIN, Tenn. — The Georgia women's golf team notched its second-consecutive par-or-better team round – and fourth in six rounds this fall – in Sunday's final day of the Mason Rudolph Championship. The No. 5-ranked Bulldogs tied for sixth in the team field while covering their 54 holes at 2-over 866.
"Team wise, it was a little frustrating," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We played well the last two days but really didn't give ourselves a chance of winning after the first round. Once we can put three days together, it will be a special tournament. We just need to figure out how to put all 54 holes together. We've played plenty of rounds under par, and we know that's coming."
Georgia shot 1-under 287 on Sunday, led by a 2-under 70 from Isabella Holpfer. The Bulldogs also counted a pair of even-par 72s from Jenny Bae and Caroline Craig and a 1-over 73 from Caterina Don, while dropping Candice Mahé's 74.
Jo Hua Hung, who was competing as an individual and not part of Georgia's "team" lineup, closed with a career-low 6-under 66 effort.
Hung was the Bulldogs' top individual finisher, ending up fifth at 7-under 209. In addition, Bae tied for 15th at 3-under 213, Craig tied for 27th at 217, Don tied for 31st at 218, Holpfer tied for 50th at 222 and Mahé tied for 66th at 225.
"Jo had a really good tournament," Brewer said. "For her, that's six rounds of par-or-better to start the year. She's obviously playing really well and hat's off to her for having a great round today and another high finish individually."
Hung teed of from No. 10 on Sunday and opened with six pars before stringing together a quartet of four straight birdies from No. 16-No. 1. She posted additional birdies at No. 4 and No. 6 before closing with a trio of pars.
Georgia played extremely well late in the day. The Bulldogs trimmed seven shots from their team score with seven birdies on their final three holes.
Georgia's six golfers combined to post 10 par-or-better daily scores among their 18 individual rounds over the weekend.
Oregon swept the team and individual titles. Hsin-Yu Lu shot 17-under to capture medalist honors by six strokes and lead the Ducks to a 14-shot win over the team field.
Georgia will retun to action on Oct. 11 when the Bulldogs open play at the Illini Invitational at Medinah Country Club. That tournament begins a long road trip for Georgia which also includes a trek to the Stanford Intercollegiate on Oct. 15-17 to wrap up the fall season.
"We know we're really deep as a team," Brewer said. "When we put it all together, it will be a special week but it also has the makings of propelling us into a great year. It's one potentially for the record books as long as we keep working hard and staying focused."
