It took a lot of asking before Georgia wide receiver Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint was allowed to play organized football. Eventually, his parents agreed, and Rosemy-Jacksaint has been making plays ever since.

A sophomore from Pompano Beach, Fla., the 6-foot-2 and 195-pound Rosemy-Jacksaint had two catches in the No. 2-ranked Bulldogs' season-opening win over Clemson. It was his first game back after a bad ankle injury suffered while scoring his first career touchdown last season, against Florida.

During a recent Quick Chat, Rosemy-Jacksaint talked about his start in the sport, loving seafood but not the ocean, and much more. Here's some of what he had to say:

Frierson: I'm sure you played a lot of different sports when you were young, so when did football become your main one?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: This is a good one. When I was growing up, I always played football outside with friends, like out on the lawn or at the park. That's the only time I really played football. I always used to ask my parents to sign me up to play ball, but they never really wanted me to because they were scared of me getting hurt.

I remember around age 11, we moved to a different area and I noticed that they had a football team. For about four or five months, I was begging my parents to sign me up to play football. And one day they finally let me go out there and play. I remember the first day of practice, I was so happy and so excited just to be out there and be around the team.

I noticed football was for me because I was able to do things, jump, run fast, catch the ball. I saw that I had some type of talent in it and I just ran with it.

Frierson: Did it take you a while to get used to the physical side of the sport?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: My first year playing, I played running back. It didn't take me long to get used to it. As a kid, I was always physical. I'm the oldest of nine (children) and I have a lot of cousins, so I always used to play-fight.

I remember the first time we were doing hitting drills, I turtled up a little bit, but the physical part just came along as I played more and more.

Frierson: You're the oldest of nine? What is that like?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: It's pretty cool. I have all these little siblings around me and it's cool seeing all my little brothers and sisters running around.

Frierson: Do you already sort of know what it's like to be a parent?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: [Laughs] Yeah, definitely.

Frierson: Did that help you as far as coming to college and having a level of maturity about you when you got here?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: It has helped me mature faster. It also helped me with responsibilities and just doing what I have to do.

Frierson: I'm sure you get asked about your last name a lot. Is there a quick version that you can share with me?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: I was adopted, I was just recently adopted by my youth football league coach. My first year playing football, he was the one that took me under his wing and taught me how to play. He and his family adopted me, so I took his last name.

Frierson: What's something you could eat every day and never get tired of it?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: Crab legs. I could eat that all day every day, no matter what.

Frierson: Growing up where you did, do you immediately lean toward seafood?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: Yes, I feel like that's where the best seafood comes from, down south. Especially South Florida. Everything's right there at the beach and you just pop them out of the water, take 'em home and cook those things up.

Frierson: Do you get in the water much?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: Oh, no [laughs]. I'll go to the water but I'm not getting in the water.

Frierson: Is that a fear thing? All of those things you want to eat are crawling around in the water.

Rosemy-Jacksaint: The ocean, I'm not really a big fan of the ocean because I don't know what's in it. I know what's in a pool — there's nothing in a pool. The ocean, I just stay away from it. I like to be around it, walking in the sand and stuff like that, but I won't be swimming in the ocean [laughs].

Frierson: Who is the funniest guy on the team? Jordan Davis has been the most popular answer this season but do you have someone else in mind?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: Kenny McIntosh, that guy's hilarious. That's probably the funniest guy in my opinion. That guy's funny. It's just natural [laughs].

Frierson: Is there one play that you've made in your athletic career that stands out more than any other?

Rosemy-Jacksaint: I would say my senior year of high school (at St. Thomas Aquinas), we were playing in the state championship and I scored the game-winning touchdown for us. But then the other team had a chance to score late — they're basically in a 2-minute situation and they're driving down into the red zone. They throw me in there at safety and I made the game-winning pick to seal the game. That's the one that sticks in my mind the most.
