Bulldogs Scatter To Summer Leagues

ATHENS, Ga.-----The first official day of summer is a few weeks away, but the summer baseball leagues are underway with 11 Georgia Bulldogs playing across the country.

The Coastal Plain League began last week with outfielder Trippe Moore III and pitcher Max DeJong on the roster of the Macon Bacon. On Saturday, the Valley League opens its season with infielder Kameron Guidry and outfielder Garrett Spikes suiting up for the Charlottesville Tom Sox. The Sunbelt Baseball League will feature infielder Buddy Floyd on the Atlanta Crackers and infielder Ryland Goede on the Gainesville Braves.

On June 17, the California Collegiate League Southern Division teams begin their season. Outfielder Josh Stinson will be a member of the Santa Barbara Foresters while outfielder Dwight Allen will play for the Orange County Riptide.

The Cape Cod League will begin play on June 20. Catcher Fernando Gonzalez will be a member of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox while pitchers Jonathan Cannon and Michael Polk will be playing for the Orleans Firebirds.

The 2021 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft will be July 11-13. Cannon is a draft-eligible sophomore who is slated to be picked in the first three rounds according to MLB.com and Baseball America. Also, senior left-hander Ryan Webb has been projected to go in the first five rounds along with a couple of Bulldog signees in pitchers Dylan Ross (Northwest Florida State) and Coleman Willis (Houston Co. HS).Â

Webb and Cannon were Georgia's top starters in 2021. Webb went 3-4 with a 3.32 ERA in 11 starts, registering 82 strikeouts and 17 walks in 59.2 innings. An elbow injury sidelined him for the final three weeks of the season. Cannon posted a 4-2 mark and 3.98 ERA in 13 appearances including 12 starts. In 63.1 innings, Cannon struck out 57 with 13 walks. The Bulldogs finished the 2021 season with a 31-25 record.
