Nakobe Dean Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

ATHENS, Ga. --- Bulldog linebacker Nakobe Dean has been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, according to an announcement on Thursday.
Dean, a rising junior from Horn Lake, Miss., was one of six District 4 selections from the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs have now had eight players selected to the CoSIDA All-District Team since 2017, including a trio in Jake Fromm, Rodrigo Blankenship and Prather Hudson in 2019. Blankenship went on to earn Academic All-America honors that season.
Dean owns a 3.53 GPA in Mechanical Engineering and has been on the UGA Dean's List and SEC and Athletic Director Honor Roll. The 2020 Butkus Award semifinalist was the Bulldogs' leading tackler last season with 71 stops, including a team-high seven tackles in the win over No. 6 Cincinnati in the 2021 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced June 30.
The 2020 Academic All-District Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve appearing in at least 50 percent of their team's games, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution.
