Georgia Returns To Action In LSU Tiger Classic

Bulldogs set for final regular-season event

ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 10-ranked Georgia women's golf team will compete in its final regular-season tournament of the 2020-21 campaign this week. The Bulldogs are among five top-10 teams in the field for the LSU Tiger Golf Classic at The University Club in Baton Rouge on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Two weeks ago, Georgia finished fifth in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the UGA Golf Course, the Bulldogs' fifth top-5 finish in seven tournaments this season.
"It's been a couple of weeks since we competed and really a month since we've competed on a golf course not our own," head coach Josh Brewer said. "I think it's important to play good tournament golf. We'll look to have a solid practice round and as good a week as possible to create some positive momentum heading into the postseason."
The SEC-heavy, 14-team field includes eight top-25 teams. No. 4 LSU is the highest-ranked entrant, followed by No. 5 Florida State, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 9 Auburn, the No. 10 Bulldogs, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 23 Alabama and No. 24 Florida. Rounding out the competing teams are Kentucky, Mississippi State, Pepperdine, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
Georgia's lineup will feature juniors Jenny Bae and Jo Hua Hung and sophomores Céleste Dao, Caroline Craig and Candice Mahé,
Bae sports a team-best 72.95 average this season with all of her 21 rounds being counts scores for the Bulldogs.
"I'm really excited to play this week," Bae said. "We've had a two-week gap since the Liz Murphey and this tournament. During that time I've practice on some things I knew I need to work on and am hoping to see some improvements. I think we're ready, and I'm hoping for the best. I'm hoping to get in the highest position I can be and the team can be."
Hung was Georgia's top finisher in the Liz Murphey, tying for 16th in the field.
"During the past two weeks I've worked on my short game a lot," Hung said. "I've spent a lot of time chipping to get a good feel. I've worked on my putting speed a lot too. I have a friend who has played the course, and they' told me that chipping and putting are really important on this golf course. They said you have a better chance to post a good score if you chip and putt well."
The trip to Baton Rouge could to be more prove beneficial if the Bulldogs are assigned to the Baton Rouge Regional of the NCAA Championships next month. The NCAA Regionals will be contested May 10-12 in Baton Rouge; Louisville, Ky.; Columbus, Ohio; and Stanford, Calif., with the top-6 teams from each site advancing to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 21-25.
"I'll probably take a few more notes than I usually would," Brewer said. "I always try to look around and study the course some but will be a little more attentive to that this week. It also could be important if a couple of people play well here and might feel good coming back here for Regionals. It will definitely be in the back of my mind but will be more important come Regional selection day if we do end up coming back to Baton Rouge."
The 54-hole tourney will feature 36 holes on Tuesday and 18 more on Wednesday. Competition will begin with a 9:30 a.m. ET shotgun start each day. Georgia will be paired with Auburn and Arkansas on Tuesday, teeing off from holes Nos. 4-7. Live scoring will be available via golfstat.com.
