Georgia Beats Missouri 9-4 To Win SEC Road Series
April 25, 2021 | Baseball
COLUMBIA, Mo.---Senior Chaney Rogers tallied a career-high four RBI to lead No. 21 Georgia to a 9-4 win over Missouri Sunday to claim an SEC road series at Taylor Stadium.
Â
Georgia (26-13, 9-9 SEC) won its third consecutive league series and set the tone early in the rubber game. Eight Bulldogs batted in the first as Ben Anderson led off the game with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch. The big hit was delivered with two outs by Rogers as he lined a three-run double to right field to put Georgia in front 4-0. In the bottom of the second, Cameron Swanger singled, took second on a wild pitch and later scored on a groundout to make it 4-1.
Â
Bulldog junior Connor Tate blasted his ninth home run of the year (seventh in SEC action) to start the third for a 5-1 advantage. It extended Tate's on-base streak to 19 games. The Tigers closed the gap to 5-3 courtesy of a couple of unearned runs in their half of the third. Missouri looked to tie the game in the fifth but had a base-running miscue as the hitter passed a runner going to second and later left a pair in scoring position as freshman reliever Jaden Woods came back with a couple of strikeouts. In the sixth, Riley King led off with a double and scored when Rogers followed with a double to give him his fourth RBI for the day. Georgia would send nine to the plate as Corey Collins would pick up an RBI on a bases-loaded walk and Connor Tate delivered a two-out, two-run single to make it 9-3. A solo home run from Trevor Austin in the seventh brought the Tigers to within five.
Â
Georgia freshman left-hander Luke Wagner started and went two innings before being lifted in the third after the first two Tigers reached on base hits. Michael Polk (2-0) came on and provided two scoreless innings before giving way to Woods who went the next four innings and gave up just one run with three strikeouts. Jack Gowen pitched the ninth. Missouri started freshman right-hander Zach Hise and he allowed eight runs on six hits in 5.1 innings to fall to 0-6. The Tigers dropped to 12-25 overall and 5-13 in the SEC.
Â
Georgia plays host to Georgia Tech Tuesday at Foley Field. First pitch is slated for 7:02 p.m., and the game will be available on the SEC Network and can be heard on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.

On the game…
"I didn't think we played very well this weekend and to win an SEC series on the road says a lot about our team. Connor Tate, Chaney Rogers had a few big hits today, and we found a way to win. Chaney had a great weekend. It looked like we were going to put up a big number in the first, and then there's two outs and we only had one run. Chaney falls behind in the count, and then he comes through with a three-run double. Michael Polk got us out of a early jam, and Jaden Woods was outstanding and Jack Gowen took care of the ninth."
