No. 2 Bulldogs Advance to SEC Tournament Title Match

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The No. 2 Georgia women's tennis team will advance to its 17th SEC Tournament Championship match appearance since the 1990 team format was implemented, after sweeping fifth seeded, No. 17 Tennessee Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs will compete for its eighth tournament title and first since the 2014 season. Georgia has not won the regular season and tournament championships in the same season since the 1994 season. In 2019, the Bulldogs reached the tournament championship match, falling to No. 5 South Carolina, 4-0.
The No. 6 ranked duo of Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arseneault continued their dominating run, defeating Tenika McGiffin and Eleonora Molinaro 6-0 on court one and a no-touch service ace by Lea Ma with partner Meg Kowalski sealed the doubles point for the Bulldogs, defeating Carly Briggs and Rebeka Mertena 6-3 on court three. Morgan Coppoc and Elena Christofi went unfinished on court two.
In singles, No. 60 Ma continued playing her best tennis of the season, cruising past No. 97 Molinaro 6-1, 6-1 on court two. No. 55 Coppoc took down Daria Kruczer 6-4, 6-2 on court four to extend her winning streak to 12 out of the last 15 matches the Bulldogs have played. No. 3 Jokic clinched the match for the Bulldogs defeating No. 85 Mertena 7-5, 6-2 placing the Bulldogs in the title match. No. 16 Kowalski, No. 51 Gonzalez and Christofi all went unfinished in their matches on their respective courts.
Georgia will await the winner of seven-seed South Carolina and the three-seed Texas A&M. The championship match will be televised nationally on SEC Network with first serve set for 10 a.m. ET.
