PINEVILLE, N.C. – The University of Georgia soccer team defeated the North Carolina State University Wolfpack, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon to conclude the 2020-21 season.
Mollie Belisle and Abby Boyan led Georgia with two shots each. The deciding strike came from Dani Murguia in the 52nd minute.
Goalkeeper Emory Wegener had four saves, notching her third shutout of the season.
"This was a very good result against a talented North Carolina State team," said Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne. "Extremely proud of the commitment from this group not only today but all year long. I've enjoyed the journey with this team and feel excited about our growth."
The first half was evenly matched between the Bulldogs and Wolfpack. Georgia had one shot compared to N.C. State's two, but the Bulldog backline stayed locked in to keep a clean sheet.
Seven minutes into the second half, Cecily Stoute took possession of the ball and ran down the right sideline. She found Murguia open at the top of the 18-yard box, allowing her to finish and put Georgia on the board.
The Bulldogs finished the season with a 5-7-3 record after facing solely SEC opposition in the fall.
