Georgia Posts Another Shutout Of Lipscomb

March 13, 2021 | Baseball

ATHENS----Freshmen Corey Collins and Parks Harber smashed three-run home runs while four Bulldogs combined on a three-hit shutout as seventh-ranked Georgia beat Lipscomb 7-0 Saturday at Foley Field.

Bulldog senior Ryan Webb (2-0) provided six scoreless and hitless innings with three walks and seven strikeouts for the win in his third start of the year. Darryn Pasqua, Will Pearson and Michael Polk threw an inning apiece to preserve the shutout. Georgia has posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since the 2018 season when it blanked South Carolina and Charleston Southern. Bison starter Max Habegger took the loss to fall to 1-1, allowing three runs on four hits over 5.1 innings. Lipscomb dropped to 5-4. On Friday, Georgia blanked Lipscomb 10-0.

Collins gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead with his second three-run home run in the series. Saturday's blast came with two outs and a 3-2 count in the bottom of the third. The Bulldogs (12-3) added four runs in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Chaney Rogers and Harber's first career home run.

The series concludes Sunday with first pitch at 1:02 p.m. and available on SEC Network+ and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.

Georgia's Ike Cousins Head Coach Scott Stricklin
 On Ryan Webb's pitches today...
"They look really good. Today he just lost focus for a couple of hitters and the walks were a little uncharacteristic, but it's a big time breaking ball, big time change up, fastball is just sitting at 92, 93 and it has a lot of spin and a lot of analytics on it. The computer when it spits out the numbers, his numbers are off the charts really good."

On how he felt coming into this weekend...
"The biggest thing for me was the first at bat, the first ground ball, those kinds of things. Those really help calm the nerves. So yesterday after that first at bat, getting that first hit was big, it helped me calm down a little bit. Of course, I didn't end up getting a ground ball, but I got a lot today so... I am not going to lie it is always nerve-wracking, just as a freshman coming in and getting some playing time. But just getting out there with everyone just calmed me down because they have all done this before. They're all great teammates and they will back you up."

On Coach Stricklin taking him out after six scoreless and hitless innings...
"I was coming off the field, and he was like, good job Ryan. I kind of stopped and hesitated and I was like I felt like that was one of my better innings. He was like well we had you on a strict pitch count; you're not going back out there. I was like but I'm fine. He was like, nope don't care, you'll go out there next week. I stood next to him for about five minutes and didn't say a word. But it was good to get in a groove. It was a nice day, so I am glad that I got to go out there and go to work."
