ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia soccer coach Keidane McAlpine announced the first member of his coaching staff Tuesday afternoon with the hiring of Sammy Towne as assistant coach.
Towne joins the Georgia staff after serving with head coach Keidane McAlpine for the previous four seasons at USC as an assistant coach.
With the Trojans, Towne helped guide USC to four top-four finishes in the Pac-12 and reached the NCAA quarterfinals in 2019. Heading up the defensive side, USC posted 39 shutouts in her tenure and produced a First Team All-American in defender Ally Prisock (2018) and a Freshman All-American in defender Kaylin Martin (2019).
Prior to joining USC, Towne served as Director of Soccer Operations for two seasons at her alma mater Auburn. Towne played for the Tigers from 2007-10, while McAlpine served as an assistant coach, earning All-SEC honors, and captaining the team. Following the end of her career, she served as a defensive assistant student-coach in 2011, helping the Tigers win their first SEC Tournament.
Following Auburn, Towne was an assistant for four seasons at UNC Greensboro, working with the defense and coordinating recruiting. With the Spartans, she helped produce nine All-Southern Conference performers, including three consecutive accolades for defender Georgia Brown.
Towne graduated from Auburn in 2012 with a degree in human development and family studies.
