Georgia Swept by Florida in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Despite phenomenal outings from junior Zoie Hartman and sophomore Luca Urlando, the eighth-ranked University of Georgia swimming and diving team fell to Florida in both meets Friday morning at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. The Georgia women dropped a tight 153-147 decision, while the men were defeated 180-120.
Urlando prevailed with B-cut times in the 100 butterfly (45.61), 200 butterfly (1:42.09), and 200 IM (1:45.12), posting the nation's fastest time this season in each event. He now holds the national lead in four events, joining the 100 backstroke he notched last Saturday against South Carolina. Fellow sophomore Jake Magahey also moved into first place nationally in the 500 freestyle at 4:16.95 and 1,000 freestyle with a time of 8:55.24.
Hartman earned four wins in the meet, sweeping the breaststroke events and 200 IM with B-cut times in each race. In the 200 breaststroke, Hartman and senior Danielle Della Torre took the top two spots to spur a late Georgia comeback. Senior Dakota Luther continued the excellent start to her season with a B-cut sweep of the butterfly events. Hartman and Luther joined freshman Eboni McCarty and sophomore Maxine Parker to win the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.72. The Bulldog women also finished first in the closing 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:18.20.
In other Georgia victories, junior Ian Grum led a top-three sweep of the 200 backstroke with a B-cut time of 1:43.49, with teammates Bradley Dunham and Mitchell Norton following. On the women's side, Duné Coetzee (1:47.52) and Abby McCulloh (4:45.38) once again took first in the 200 and 500 freestyle respectively.
At the diving well, Meghan Wenzel (292.13) and Tally Brown (280.73) both posted Zone-qualifying scores in the 1-meter, while freshman Timothy Fagan earned the Bulldogs' top mark on the 3-meter at 285.68.
Georgia remains on the road as it heads to Auburn next Friday, Nov. 6 at noon at the Martin Aquatics Center.
