Bulldogs Conclude the Georgia Invitational

ATHENS, GA. — Three Bulldogs notched singles victories on Sunday, Oct. 24, the final day of the Georgia Invitational. In total, Georgia tallied 18 wins on the weekend — 14 singles and four doubles.
Graduate Morgan Coppoc, senior Meg Kowalski, and junior Lea Ma all notched singles victories on day two. No. 15 Kowalski and No. 19 Ma both won in straight sets. Kowalski defeated Princeton's Grace Joyce, 6-3, 6-1, while Ma beat Florida's Alicia Dudeney, 6-4, 6-2.
No. 66 Coppoc faced a top-20 opponent in Central Florida's No. 20 Valeriya Zeleva. In a roller coaster of a match, Coppoc triumphed over Zeleva, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.
Alee Clayton fell to Central Florida's Anique Kattenberg, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Mai Nirundorn lost to Princeton's Leena Bennetto in straight sets.
"Today was a great way for us to close out our fall home tournament," said Georgia associate head coach Drake Bernstein. "Morgan closed out the fall with a top-20 win that was quite fitting, as she has continued to play better and better throughout the fall."
"We are also very proud of Lea and the way that she battled the past two days," said Bernstein. "She also finished her fall much further along than where she started. Our next challenge is to continue to bring this energy and intensity as a group to practice, day after day, week after week to be best prepared for the dual match season."
"Also, we would like to thank all of the hands that went into making this tournament a success from our event management, to our media group and particularly our grounds crew for being out here early in the mornings preparing our courts for play," Bernstein said.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Nov. 4-7 at the ITA National Fall Championship in San Diego, Calif.
