STANFORD, Calif. — Playing in a "play four, count four" situation, the No. 18-ranked Georgia women's golf team posted a 9-over 293 in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate on Saturday. The Bulldogs trimmed three strokes from their opening-round effort but remain in 11th on the team leaderboard entering the final round at the Stanford Golf Course.
"We played pretty well," head coach Josh Brewer said. "We still left some shots out there. We wanted to play a little better and move up the leaderboard a little more but playing with four is a challenge. We're excited to get the chance to compete again tomorrow. Isabella played well today, and we know we're very capable of going out there and shooting under par."
Holpfer fired a 2-under 69 to lead the Bulldogs on Saturday. Georgia also counted a 73 from Jo Hua Hung, a 74 from Caroline Craig and a 77 from Caterina Don. Jenny Bae was unable to play on Saturday and is not expected to do so on Sunday.
"This is a difficult golf course," Brewer said. "This is not a course where nine, 10 or 11 teams are going to be shooting under par. At the same time, we know we're good enough to post a score in red numbers. If we clean up just a few things, we could take advantage of the opportunity to show what we're capable of."
Georgia teed off from No. 10 and played the back side of the course first on Saturday. Holpfer turned at even after mixing birdies at No. 11 and No. 14 and bogeys at No. 13 and No. 17 with five pars. On the front side, she birdied No. 1 and No. 7 to move .
No. 1 Stanford is atop the team and individual leaderboards. Led by a 12-under effort by Rose Zhang, the Cardinal are at 21-under as a team. Stanford owns a 20-stroke margin over the field, while Zhang enters the final round with a five-shot lead.
Sunday's loop will feature a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. ET. Georgia will be paired with Texas and Washington and open play on holes Nos. 8-11. Live scoring is available via golfstat.com.
