ATHENS, Ga. ---Two incoming freshmen on the University of Georgia soccer team, Madison Haugen and Megan O'Neal, have been named to the High School All-America team by the United Soccer Coaches.
Of 26 females named to the list, both Haugen and O'Neal are of seven who have earned the distinction for the second time in their career.
A native of Suwannee, Georgia, Haugen played forward at Lambert High School. She scored 15 goals in 10 games this season as a senior, before it ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
She leaves as the all-time leading scorer in program history. She tallied 68 goals in 56 total games after only playing two and a half seasons. The previous record-holder played four years of varsity soccer. With 31 assists throughout her career, Haugen was two shy of that record as well. She is a three-time Lambert soccer Offensive MVP recipient.
O'Neal, an attacking midfielder from Dallas, Texas, scored 47 goals and dished out 49 assists in her time at Highland Park High School. When her season was cut short this year, she had tallied 22 goals and 16 assists.
She was one of three finalists for the Dallas Girls Soccer Player of the Year award and was named the District Offensive Player of the Year.
"We are excited to see Madison and Megan recognized for their tremendous high school achievements," Georgia soccer head coach Billy Lesesne said. "They certainly have distinguished themselves as highly successful players. We feel they have the work ethic and skill set to impact our program and look forward to their contributions to the team."
