July 01, 2020 | Volleyball

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia women's volleyball program has announced the addition of Louisville transfer Amber Stivrins to the 2020 roster.

Stivrins, a 6-2 outside hitter from Scottsdale, Arizona, was a member of Louisville's program last season which saw the Cardinals make an Elite 8 run in the NCAA Tournament, highlighted by an upset of No. 2 Texas in the Sweet 16. Stivrins will come to Georgia as a sophomore with three seasons of eligibility.

"Amber's decision was an exciting day for our program," said head coach Tom Black. "She had an impressive freshman year. Getting to know her over these past couple weeks and learning where she wants to go has only made us more fired up to welcome her to UGA. She wants to make an impact and more importantly wants to put in the work to do it. We can't wait to get started with her."

An ACC All-Freshman Team selection last season, Stivrins registered 169 total kills and ranked fourth on the team with 2.11 kills per set, registering a .243 hitting clip. She appeared in 80 sets across 24 matches with seven starts. In ACC play, Stivrins' kills average went up over 13 matches to 2.55 per set, hitting .259 against conference opponents. The Cardinals finished third in the ACC with a 12-6 record and concluded the season 22-10 overall and with a final ranking of No. 14 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

In the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Louisville toppled #15 Western Kentucky on WKU's home court in five sets. Stivrins picked up 13 kills with four blocks and eight digs in the match. She followed it up with eight kills in the five-set upset of Texas in Austin in the Sweet 16, punching Louisville's ticket to the Elite 8.

Prior to Louisville, Stivrins played for the Arizona Storm Club. At Chaparral High School, she played varsity as a freshman and earned MVP honors for her 15s Club GJNC in both the Colorado and Salt Lake Triple Crown. Her team was the Southern California Qualifier winner in Open and won the MLK tourney in Arizona. She was on the 16s USA A1 Red team and the 17s USA A1 team.  She was a two-time All-City team member and served as co-captain for her high school team the final three years of her career. Chaparral named her team MVP for both her sophomore and senior years. During her high school career, she amassed 1,495 kills, hitting .243, with 1,008 digs.

Amber is the daughter of Claire and Alex Stivrins. Her father Alex played basketball at Creighton and Colorado followed by time in the NBA, including a stint with the Atlanta Hawks in 1993. Her sister Lauren is a two-time AVCA All-America middle blocker at Nebraska. Her brother Lucas played basketball at Nevada.
