ATHENS, Ga. – University of Georgia senior swimmer Jackson Ford has been named to the 2020 Academic All-District ® At-Large Team, which recognizes the top student-athletes for combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
The team is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and is derived from student-athletes in the District 4 states of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and South Carolina.
Ford, a native of Johns Creek, Ga., graduated from Georgia this month with a bachelor's degree in Finance, finishing his four years in Athens with a 3.87 cumulative GPA. Ford was a key member of the Bulldogs, providing strong depth in the breaststroke events. He scored in both the 100- and 200-yard events at this year's SEC Championships, posting NCAA B-cut times in each race.
In November, Ford helped the Bulldogs take the overall title at the Tennessee Invitational with wins in the 'B' final of both breaststroke events. He closed his career in March at the Bulldog Invitational with a personal-best time of 53.47 in the 100-yard breaststroke, ranking him eighth in school history.
In the classroom, Ford has been a team standout, earning the Alex Patterson Scholar-Athlete Award following the 2017 and 2019 seasons. He was nominated for the 2020 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times, in addition to being a 2018 CSCAA Scholar All-American.
Ford will now appear on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ® ballot, with first, second, and third team selections being announced on Friday, June 19 at noon EDT. If chosen, Ford would be the first Bulldog swimmer to appear on the roster since Chantal Van Landeghem made the First Team in 2017.
