ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Trent Phillips, Davis Thompson, and David Sikes have earned end-of-the-year awards from the Southeastern Conference, according to an announcement Wednesday by the league office.
Phillips and Thompson were picked as members of the All-SEC First Team, while Sikes was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
Phillips was a First-Team selection a year ago when he was picked as the conference's Freshman of the Year. He is the 23rd Bulldog to earn multiple First-Team honors. The native of Inman, S.C., recently received First-Team All-America recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America. When the 2019-20 season was halted, Phillips led the Bulldogs with a scoring average of 69.75 (which stands as the Georgia single-season record), including 11 of 24 rounds in the 60s. He was named to the PING All-Southeast Region Team. Phillips picked up his first collegiate victory in the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in November, posting a 20-under 193 to break Chris Kirk's school mark of 18-under 195. Phillips had five additional top-10 efforts. He was named to the watch lists for the Haskins and Hogan awards.
Thompson was a Second-Team All-SEC pick a year ago. He and his father, Todd, now both have two All-SEC accolades on their résumés as Todd was a Second-Team pick in both 1987 and 1988. The junior from Auburn, Ala., picked up 2020 First-Team All-America honors from the GCAA, was a finalist for the Haskins Award, and was named to the PING All-Southeast Region Team. Thompson ended the year with a scoring average of 69.95 (second in Georgia annals), including nine rounds in the 60s. He won the Jim Rivers Invitational last fall and had four additional top-10 finishes this season. Thompson played on sponsor exemptions in the 2019 RSM Classic and the 2020 Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour. By virtue of winning the Jones Cup Invitational, he earned another berth in the 2020 RSM Classic. Thompson has been chosen to compete for the United States in the Arnold Palmer Cup Dec. 21-23 at Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Fla.
Sikes, a junior from Atlanta, has been the Bulldogs' representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for the past two seasons. Sikes and the other members of SAAC undertook such initiatives as UGA Relay for Life, Special Olympics, UGA Miracle, the Barrow Elementary after-school program, Spooky Dawgs, Hunger Bowl/Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, Shop with a Bulldog, a Christmas toy drive, and goodie bags for UGA student veterans during his stints on the committee.
