Hancock, Jokic Honored As Student-Athletes Of The Year

ATHENS, Ga. —Emerson Hancock (baseball) captured the 2020 Vince Dooley Athlete of the Year award, while Katarina Jokic (tennis) was named the 2020 Liz Murphey Athlete of the Year Monday during a virtual Student-Athlete Awards Banquet presented by the UGA Athletic Association.
The Dawgs Choice Awards, supported by The Georgia Way, is put together annually by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.). The UGAAA Athlete of the Year Award is given to a male and a female student-athlete for uncommon achievement in his or her varsity sport, who brings national and/or international recognition to the individual, team and the University of Georgia. Also, they exemplify the standards of "The Georgia Way."
Caroline Chipman (soccer)and Prather Hudson (football) were recognized as the recipients of the 2020 Joel Eaves Award, an honor given to two rising seniors with the highest grade point averages (GPA). The UGA Athletic Association Sportsmanship-Ethics Award went to Jake Fromm (football) and Stephanie Paul (women's basketball). Elena Christofi of the tennis team received the Marilyn Vincent Scholar-Athlete award, an honor given to the graduating female senior with the highest GPA while Ryan Peppenhorst (men's cross country) earned the Dick Bestwick Scholar-Athlete Award for the graduating male senior with the highest GPA.
The 2020 Georgia recipients for the H. Boyd McWhorter Post-Graduate Scholarship were Rodrigo Blankenship (football) and Elena Christofi (women's tennis). Jordan Stout (women's swimming and diving) and Walker Higgins (men's swimming and diving) were presented with the Brad Davis SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarships.
The women's and men's cross country teams were recognized as the winners of the Faculty Athletics Representative's Award. The women's team earned a 3.36 GPA for the 2018-19 academic year, while the men's team finished with a GPA of 3.47. The gymnastics team earned the Bulldog Cup, which recognizes the team that excels academically, supports their peers in athletic competition and consistently serves the community. The award, initiated by S.A.A.C. in 2011, has been won by the gymnastics team now for the fourth time.
