HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Sophomore Jenny Bae's even-par 71 highlighted the Georgia women's golf team's second-round performance at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Saturday. The Bulldogs are 17th on the team leaderboard at 620 entering Sunday's final round at the Long Cove Club.
"Jenny played great," head coach Josh Brewer said. "She got it to 2-under and maybe a wrong club or a bad bounce caused her to finish at even. That's sort of the story of our weekend. It's been a tough week. We're excited to get back out there on the final day and see if we can post a good score that will help us gain momentum for the rest of the spring."
Bae's fourth par-or-better score of the season led the Bulldogs' team score of 309 on the day. Georgia also counted a 78 from freshman Céleste Dao, a 79 from freshman Caterina Don and an 81 from freshman Candice Mahe.
Freshman Caroline Craig posted the second-best score by a Bulldog on the day, a 75; however, her tally did not count in Georgia's team tally because she is competing as an individual.
Overall, Bae and Craig are tied for 32nd individually, followed by Mahe in 66th, Jo Hua Hung in 70th, Don in 79th and Dao in 86th.
Bae and the Bulldogs teed off from No. 10 and played the back side of the course first on Saturday. She slipped to 3-over after a trio of birdies at No. 12, No. 13 and No. 14 but gained one stroke back with a birdie at No. 18. That was the first of four-consecutive birdies that moved Bae to 1-under through 12 holes.
Bae came back to even with a bogey at No. 4, but birdied No. 6 and No. 7 to improve to 2-under on the day. That momentum stopped with a a couple of bogeys at No. 8 and No. 9 to complete her loop.
Georgia will tee off first from No. 10 between 8:00-8:40 on Sunday. Live scoring is available via golfstat here.
